Unhappy Panoramic Moonroof Issues

Ref: 2005 X5 4.4i

Anyone have a history or current issues with their panoramic moonroof as such:

1. Lots of wind noise while glass is in closed position while non-transparent panel in the full open position. This has been a bothersome issue since new.

2. Moonroof in Tilt position does not close. It takes shutting the vehicle off, opening the door and keeping it open, turn ignition key into accessory position from "off" position, push moonroof button to close moonroof, but time the ignition key position to the "off" position so that the moonroof "stops" in the fully-closed position. If timing is not met, the moonroof will automatically miagrate to the Tilt position upon moving the ignition key into the accessory position. This has been a bothersome issue since new.

Obviously I do not put the moonroof into Tilt position often.

I'm looking to see if I have any company on these issues. I've lived with these issues for the last year because my dealer usually returns my vehicle in worse shape than I drop it off (long history with this dealer), which makes me very reluctant to turn this vehicle into the dealer for just this issue.

Do the experts of this Forum know if a battery "re-set" would reset the logic in the window controller unit, which would keep me from a visit to the local "stealer"?

TIA.

No good news to share

There is a TSB on 2005 Panoramic Sunroofs. My 4.8 had similar windnoise, and eventually started leaking like a sieve. Take it to the dealer, they're the only ones who can fix your problem.

Mine had a lot of wind noise in the top left corner when closed. At the first service they found one of the water drain hoses that ran forwards wasnt correctly positioned and was causing the whistling. Since then its been quiet.

I'm not clear on what the closing problem is. Are you saying that when closing the roof it closes then continues onto tilt, or are you having troubles going from the tilt position to closed.

If mine it tilted I close it by pushing the switch forwards towards the windscreen.I need to hold my finger on the switch. Likewise, if the roof is open, pushing the switch forwards momentarily closes the roof. I do not need to hold my finger on the switch in this case. There could be a dud position sensor that needs fixing. The roof control system should have a diagnostic test that the dealer can use to identify any problems.

Good luck.

I had to have the switch replaced on my '04 2x and the seal replaced. Make sure that there's nothing in the tracks that is blocking the roof from opening/closing properly.

Thanks for your help . . . looks like a trip to the local dealer. Hopefully they will return my car w/o any additional dents, oil hand prints on the interior, and actually fix the issues that was requested to the service advisor.

So not looking forward to this . . . .
