Battery died, tried to recharge, alarm went off.

Hi,

I accidentally left the lights on and the battery is dead. I hooked up a battery charger and the alarm went off. Is that normal? How do I turn it off?

Haven't had expierence with this happening on the X5 yet, but my Lincoln LS would do this if the battery had lost its charge and entered the vehicle and attempted to start it. The car would not have enough cranking power, I'd stop turning the key and then the alarm would sound. Actually, battery was going bad and this happened the day I returned my X5 after an overnight test drive. Made me look pretty bad since I was attempting to trade the Linc in on the X5 deal.

Anyway, hope things work out. I'm guessing a circuit completes that would have tripped the alarm prior to the battery dying (i.e. alarm was armed, battery died, opening door with key technically would trip alarm under normal circumstances, battery power returned from charging and alarm detects previous intrusion??? That is a long shot and, well, probably wrong!

Hook your X5 To a charger. When the alarm goes off simply hit the unlock button on the remote key or turn the ignition on this will disarm the alarm. Let the car charge for a half hour or so and then start it up. Some warning lights will stay on in the insturment cluster these will go out as soon as you start driving. Try to avoid jumping the X if you can use a battery charger instead.
