Error Code?

I swear I'm not hallucinating. Today, while driving under normal conditions, for a brief moment my dashboard computer display showed the following cryptic message (placed in quotes here):

"--8-- SO ST"

I haven't seen the message since. No drinking or illicit substance use was involved, honest. Anyone have any idea what this means? Has my x5 been taken over by aliens??
