Accelerated by itself!

Ok, I have a 4.4i 05' X5. I was stopped today at noon at a stoplight. I came to a stop, then, about 2 seconds later, the car started accelerating by itself. I quickly put both feet on the brake, put since that didn't stop it, I set it onto park. When the light turned green, I put it in D and just drove and seems fine after that. WHat happened, that should never happen again... I mean I was like 1mm away from hitting a car in front of me... Thanks for you help!

Had that happen in an E30 - the throttle froze. Sudden temperature change from heated garage to minus 10. Scary, I had a manual transmission so i put my foot on the clutch - I thought that I was going to blow the engine - dealer blamed my floor mats. 2 months later BMW issued a bulletin - included a heaer for the throttle cable.

Do you have aftermarket floor mats that don't anchor to the floor? I've seen it happen to other people, the mat slides forward and depresses the gas pedal.

I had a little different experience with my X5. Signal turned green step on the gas x5 didn't response, I pushed little bit more and didn't response. When I pull my foot away from gas, my car accelerating itself. There was no car in front of me. I told my dealer and they told me they can't find an error code

After that, it didn't happened again. I hope it won't happen again.

I do have aftermarket mats, but they are from Costco () so they only fit the REAR and the PASSENGER. The only mat in the driver floor is the BMW carpet that came with the car...
