with both your 4.6 AND the 540, these cars are sedated speed missles. When you make them sound like Smokey and the Bandit Trans Am, well it just plays the vehicle down a bit in my opinion. These vehicles deserve a muted V8 sound, not a muscle car sound.

I currently have a 4.8is and it has the perfect sound. I've owned a 540 with Dinan stage 2 kit/BBS and if it had sounded like a stock 4.8is or stock M5 it would have been perfect. Just another viewpoint

I picked the 540i up on Wednesday night, the same night I dropped off my X5. I had to wait for my X5 to get the rims powder coated back to the original color before I could pick up the 540i.

I loved the original rumble my 4.6is had, but I wanted more. I really enjoyed pulling up to a light and flooring it just to hear that sound. I think the 540i is going to sound great with the resonator removed, not to mention it'll add a little more horsepower. Nothing dramatic, but a little.

How about upgrading your stock air box to an AFE cold air intake system?

your 4.8is, is it black by chance? I've seen a black 4.8is in the downtown Camas area, don't see too many of those around my neck of the woods.

Matzo - I think you have something in common with Chris (member name: inlacal) - the color RED!

TiSi

Matzo, it's your rig and your choice. I've ridden in an e39M5 with Dinan fart cannons and I have to tell you, that's the sound to emulate. Slightly louder than stock at light/partial throttle, opening up to a symphony of screaming trumpets at WOT. Now that's nice

I like the way that looks, I really don't think there's a better color on a Bimmer
