There is a high-pitched whistling noise coming from this part....I believe it is some throttle by-pass idle valve....any ideas what this part is....doubt it is repairable and probably easier to replace the part.....
It is from a 2001 X5 3.0i sitting on the left of the valve cover..... It seems like there is air leaking which is causing the high-pitched noise....No SES light and no driveability problems and still with stable idling.... Thanks in advance.... |

Isn't that the Intake Adjuster Unit?
part #7 in the following link http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...79&hg=11&fg=40 |

Thanks, that is the part #7 (Intake Adjustor)....that I'll probably have to replace. Should only take 1/2 hour or so......Hmmm $140 from realoem.com...
I'll do it myself. Quote:

Can you expand on that? My car (same 01 X5 3.0) does the same, and the warranty is about to expire.
Thanks Paul |

Nothing to expand....just bring your X5 into BMW dealer and tell them that....However, the whistling noise is VERY LOUD and VERY noticeable.
You can hear it coming from the intake adjustor....There is a broken seal, because I can put my finger on the leak and the noise goes away. Quote:

Must be something else then. This noise is not that loud.
Tks. |

KewlX5 - I am not sure about the price on RealOEM, but I guess it'd be in that ballpark.

Already ordered from Crevier BMW and I think it was around $150 or so. They had to special order it and I'll get it in 2 days.
Thanks again for all your help. The realoem website is quite helpful. Quote:
