I haven't found the best settings yet, but once my BSW sub arrives, I think I'll be leaving the bass setting to the factory default (center of high and low) and probably turn the treble about 3/4 of the way up. It's defintely a disappointment that such a poor audio system comes with a factory install of the nav and who buys tape decks? I can't even think of a place to buy tapes.

I won't say small details, because BMW does a great job a small details, but simple details, such as stero / sound equipment really surprised me. My 03 lincoln (same year as my X) had Sat. Nav with 6 disc in dash cd changer, a factor 10 inch sub and THX tuned stero system. Anyway, that's my only rant, but I do LOVE my X far more than the Linc.

Let me know if you guys find more optimal settings.

I see posts like this all the time. Really the correct answer is dependent on your style of music, recording media, and your own personal taste in equalization in my opinion. It's the same thing is asking, what is the best color? What's the best brand of jeans, or shoes, etc etc. It's personal preference and the best thing you can do is listen to your favorite song, and individually take each frequency and take it to the min, then to the max, then decide which frequency sounds like what. Then you choose for yourself. Many decide to keep the midrange somewhat flat, then boost up the low end and high end. Others tend to disagree.

The main point is that it's personal preference and you should set it to what sounds best for you depending on the source and content

I think its personal perference, and it also depends on the song and type of music.

This is horribly off topic, but for example: I can't listen to anything on the X3 with the bass turned more than +1 from the middle setting and indeed, most of the time it's -1. That's cuz the standard subwoofers are that powerful. My friend (with an X5, standard audio) loves my subwoofers and turns on loud music and puts the bass setting to the max..........very annoying and I end up overriding the volume via the steering wheel.

Yes i think so to personal preference. I like very crisp sound like with lots of trebble but my wife likes sound with not as much trebble and more bass.

Ditto - personal pref - I had BSW put in their speakers, sub, amp, and IceLink in my 2006 (vs BMW premium sound) - It makes my 2001 X5 sound muted, like someone draped heavy curtains over the speakers - BSW's speaker upgrade really makes a difference if you really want crisp beautiful sound - JMHO
