Extended Warranty

Anyone buy an extended warranty from API? The BMW extended warranty is only good for 2 years and is now up to $3,800 for a 3.o. I can buy the API warranty for 4 years upt to 100,000 miles for $3,000. I can buy this through my BMW dealer. It seems to be pretty close to a bumper to bumper. The plan is called Premiere with $100 deductible.

Don't know the API plan, but it sounds good. Can you elaborate more on the "bumper to bumper" thing?

Take a warning, compare all the details...every single thing.

I don't have all the details on the Premiere plan yet. I plan to visit the dealer in person and go over the contract. If you are interested go directly to apiprotection.com for the details on the web.

Being interested in learning more about Ext Warranties, I did
some GOOGling on "API"...
I found many references and chat room questions and, they even
showed up as a "contender" in those on-line "we can hook you up
with an extended warranty", quote forms.

What I could not find was any real world opins or anecdotal quips
on their performance. I did find a real API "site", so maybe there is
someone behind the curtain.

I also found many ref's to that company's product being pumped
through car dealers, which means there is some markup in there
somewhere for that "pushing dealer".

With the dearth of real world info, I can't comment to you on
whether or not it's a good deal. I would ask your pushing Stlr
for a copy of the fine print, espc. the "exclusions" section, the
allowed and reimbursable labor rate, and the oem parts/substitute
parts section; those areas are where the rubber hits the road.

I also couldn't determine who the secondary or tertiary re-insurer
is/are for this company. Not a huge prob., but its the "funder(s)"
and final fiduciary party(ies) that keep these kinds of companies going
or, not.

In my digging there seems to be a recent resprouting of many
"companies" in the auto ext. warr. biz, not unlike the halcyon days
of a few years ago. That "growth" then, lead to several "national"
companies going toes up and leaving their policy holders with an
empty pail.

There remains one other large, national aftermkt ext. warranty co.,
and that is Warranty Direct. I have their program, as do a few other
noble posters here. No pump for them, but they are still "around" and
national.

Give them a try for your fyi and comparo shopping and, be sure
to check out the fine print in your Stlr's pitched program. Also,
the official BMW deal is fairly good, (CPO-like in coverage), but
damn pricey in cost for those two years. Do some more research
on your part; I've done my share of digging and opining, here.

can I make a suggestion. Do your homework and consider www.warrantydirect.com

I went through the same dilemma and debated between WD and the OEM warranty. I went with WD at similar pricepoints to your postings. YMMW but these would be the only 2 extended warranty options I would look at.

Thanks for all the input. I went with Warranty Direct. The Secure+ plan. 4 yrs, 100,000 miles with $100 deductible. I also included the emmission system. $2,854.
