Looks like the Homelink Connector (atleast on other BMWs it is typically a white connector, 3 contacts)

The microphone connection may be tucked WAY WAY inside the headliner. If you have the ULF connection in the boot, your X5 is pre-wired. Sometimes the mic connection does not get pulled all the way through to the overhead console. I had to get the dealership to drop the headliner to pull my mic connection into the overhead console.

Unfortunately I dont have the ulf connector in the boot. I removed armrest and no phone cable present, neither could I find mic.
I have read posts about mic being hidden in headliner, I doubt its there as I cant find the other wires either :-( Martin has a great retrofit option though, I still have to run the mic though :-( |

Thanks for the info, think I'll search one more time. I guess (mother of all fuck-ups) that the green/yellow wire is switched 12v

You could put a test meter across the wire, that will tell you easy enough. If you havent got a test meter buy a cheap 12v bulb, earth one side and pop the wire onto the wire.
I lost my meter and installed a car stereo in my girlfriends car, I took a halogen bulb from my ceiling spot lights in the house to test for the ignition live, her face was a picture lol |
