Strong smell of gas
Greetings,
I have an 02 X5 4.4 with 81k miles (CPO.) Lately, I have noticed a strong gas odor in the garage. There doesn't appear to be any leaks and I have had my bwm service center go through the whole fuel system... they found nothing. I am seeing an ~2 mpg reduction on the computer...this may be due to the recent cold spell in the northeast. Are there any known issues with fuel mixture or filters that may cause this? I am also wondering if my car is reacting to the effects of ethanol. I have read that the additive has caused damage to seals, etc in some engines. Maybe a stretch, but I am out of ideas. Does anyone else have this problem? Any ideas? ![]() I love my X5, but it has become a smelly beast and fills the house with the smell of gas every time the door to the garage is opened (not to mention a concern over the potential for combustion/fire!) Thanks in advance to all! |
