99.9% chance that it is the window regulator that went bad. Very common issue. On the home page is a DIY on how to replace it.

Hmmm...looks like a club I'm about to join. My passenger side window is starting to make some crackling noises when I row it down in the last couple of weeks. But it still work...just holding my breath

dead window
thanks to the diy article on regulator replacement have uneventfully removed driver side door panel. i am having trouble getting to the two nuts that secure the window to the track. they seem to be below the hole in the track. i have not had much luck pulling up on the window or using the window switch. i guess i need help again! thanks roadkingdoc!

That crackling sound is the pully rope starting to spin around its spool. Happened to me on my 2001 passenger side, rear. Eventually the window will just slide down and won't come back up. You WILL be replacing it soon.
Costs about $400 at BMW. Probably half at a non-BMW — yet licensed repair shop. |
