i am thinking to get my bmw x4 diesel 2004 plate fitted with a cold air intake, is there one available for my x5? as i heard there is not many around.

has anyone got a cold air intake on their diesel x5? or know of any good suppliers/makes/brands for cold air intakes?

You are right, not many around.I never seen one or been asked to make one.
Only one I know of is the cold "hot" air intake made by K&N for a test vehicle that was prepared by Eibach .(see diesel engine bay pic).
If you really want one ,you will have to get someone to make the aluminium piping (Turner race developments south west UK car tuning company) and then since you in the UK,get a BMC-CDA Carbon fibre universal air filter to fit the aluminium piping.
I would then suggest you a make a partition in the engine (like the AFE kits for the petrol X5s-see pic) to keep the engine heat away from the filter,as much as possible.
Done properly it will look good ,sound good, but it will be ever so noisy(motorway cruising will be unbearable) and you wont get any performance gains(maybe the opposite),which why you hardly see any around.
You will see more gains if you simply remove the white sponge from your standard paper filter.
If I still havent put you off ,Give my coleague Dan Turner at TRD a call (01453 766739)and he will gladly make a kit for you and with perfect welding unlike on the K&N kit
