Escort SRX install - ashtray?

I am trying to figure out where to put the controller unit in my 2006 4.8. In my last car (E55) it went in the ashtray so when I shut the ashtray it was completely concealed. Has anybody been able to do so in the X5 and if so can you describe and post pix as to what you cut to make it fit? In searching the boards I have found only the "knee board" install which is (i) too visible and (ii) too tough to put back to "stock" upon resale.

thanks. I've seen the site and its helpful. But I'm looking for anybody who has tried something more creative, like an ashtray install.

Nope - I had it in my E55, the guy pulled it and is waiting for him to tell me where I want it in the X5. The only ones he has done before is the one in front of the MID - which I don't like b/c it isnt hidden and its hard to reach the buttons through the steering wheel
