X5 survival gear

I had recently posted my adventure's in my X5 in the mountains with blizzard conditions. It took 4 hours to travel 75 miles in a storm. My friend got trapped in his X5 for 10 hours without moving! I always prepare my X5 for travel delays when I am driving long distances. My inventory includes:

small powerful flashlight *
a 12 volt powered light
road flairs*
swiss army knife*
a pillow and comforter
work gloves, disposable rubber gloves*
50' tow rope*
collapsible shovel
a complete change of clothes including under ware*
12' x 12' nylon tarp*
large and small towels*
paper towels*
toilet paper*
first aid kit*
water proof matches*
lots of extra: water and snacks*
personal protection
duct tape*
Z-chains
garbage bags*

* are regular supplies, hidden out of sight

When traveling in snow country, I never let the tank get below half full. My friend survived the 10 hours with two young boys in the car by having an inverter, two laptops, and lots of games and movies. Am I missing anything?

What an excellent list...after hearing about people stranded in their cars (for days at a time) I now have many of those things too. Always better to have them, even if you never are going to use it. I would add:

- Keep a cell phone on youself

- Seatbelt cutter/window breaker device

- Give people at home a note with your driving route.

- jump cables

- small bottle of windshield washer fluid

How about one of those battery back ups for your cell phone and some type of battery powered radio in case your X5's battery goes dead.

You might also want to consider some other type of communication in case you get caught in an area where there is no cell signal. Perhaps a hand held CB radio?

I thought you were talking about the "personal protection" that you would use at night....with your wife......

So you mean mace, knife, weapon..etc..
good idea. Have you ever needed to use any of these things?

In all fairness, cell phone + car charger is enough for us. We wouldn't go places where we might be stranded alone due to weather in the first places.

As for "personal protection", I think a handgun suffices.
