Unhappy Windscreen Separation

Dear all fellow X'ers

I haven`t seen anyone post on this, but thought I`d mention my "minor" problem. Today, after slowing down at the tollgate, paid my levy, and accelerated, reached 75mph and was about to turn the music back to the previous loud level (is there anyway else to listen to music?), and this very loud humming noise suddenly came from the front dash, not actually from the front of it, the noise seemed to be coming from the top of the dash (and it got worse the quicker one went). So after taking her in to the stealership, the stealer`s diagnostician got in and after a quick ride to reach the desired speed and the noise started up again:

Diagnosis: Windscreen separation from top of body frame

Treatment: Remove windscreen, reseal with silicon, replace windscreen, and get X5 back with black silicon smears all over the hood and in the interior too.

Just though I`d share this with you all.

Cheers,

BigE: Hmmm, doesn't sound like a good deal.
Hope they do a good job. Weird glitch.

My radio sound increases automatically w/speed, but maybe you younger guys can stand or need it louder, lol!

I had the same problem with my windscreen, but the stealer replaced it for free w/o the black smear marks though.

Tsagg, yes, I played with the AC controls too, only to find that if I pushed on the uppermost part of the windscreen on the inside, the hum went away. So your hum does not increase i amplitude as your speed increases? I was told politely that this windscreen issue is a "common" problem. Hmmmm, don`t think so. On a brighter side, I did once have a bee stuck in the air vents that did hum allot!!!

Cheers,

It is weird, the hum sounds totally like a wind problem since it goes in and out like gusts of wind hitting it on different angles but then it completely goes away when the A/C is turned off! I don't get it.

Hey I think I have that, too! Is it a high-pitched noise?

Does get pretty high pitched once you reach > 80mph. Try reaching that speed and then have someone in the passenger front seat exert gentle pressure on the uppermost aspect of the windscreen.........if noise goes away while exerting pressure and comes back when letting go: there is your diagnosis!

Let us know if this helps.....

Cheers,

Cheers,
I'll try that over the weekend when I go back up the cottage. I usually cruise on the highway between 120 and 130 (75 - 80 MPH), and I get this high-pitched noise coming from somewhere up front in the cabin.
