X5 Bluetooth parrot kit etc

Hi to all..

i am looking to get a bluetooth kit fitted to a UK BMW X5 with satnav, the car was maufactured in january 2002..

I need to be able to mute the sound then phone calls come through the car speakers..

If any of you guys have done an install i would like to know what parts were needed..

Any advise would be great.

Pally

I did an install of a Parrot kit in my Ford truck and I believe the process is the same for whatever vehicle you have. The Parrot kits are designed to be universal and will work with any audio system so long as you can access and indetify all the speaker output leads from either the amp or headunit. The kit gives you the option to use a mute switch wire which patches into your radio if it has such an option built in (Pioneer units and others have this, but I don't think the X has it). Otherwise, you simply splice the Parrot's control box leads into your speaker output wires (messy, but effective). The control box is basically a relay that cuts out the sound when you make a call. You also have to hook up a small microphone, 12V power leads, and attach the display panel to the dash. The install is not difficult if you are familiar with car audio equip., etc. The kit works great though. Have you thought about an oem bluetooth module? It is much simpler to install.

does your car have the phone controls on the steerign wheel? if so lookup a company called Blue connect they make harnesses to hookup the parrot box in place of a factory bluetooth unit.

Here is a link to a thread that may answer some of your questions on the bluetooth kit.
