Check Brake Linings?

hi all,

had my X5 (3.0 Diesel Sport 2005) Serviced at my dealer 2weeks ago (first service)

Part of the service is to check & measure front & rear brake pads.

Driving home last night the "CHECK BRAKE LININGS" warning light came on.

The car has done less than 500miles since it was serviced.

Should this have been picked up on the service?

Regards

Mark

Yes this should have been picked up during the service. It may be an indication of the throughness of the service dept. I would kindly bring it to their attention. If it's under warranty just take it in and let them care for it.

check break linings

Hi,

you dont have problem, the sensor wire on the break system on the right back tire is moved which sends signal to the computer thinking that the linings are gone, you can see the wire by looking to the right back tire, just fix the wire by hand and the warning will go, or press and hold the check computer button on the milage gauge, (the right button) and the warning will go.

Regards

It depends.... if the light came on because your brake pads need to be replaced, then yes, service should have caught it... It can also be the result of a brake sensor that came loose or became faulty in which case, no service probably would not have caught it..

Spoke to service manager today.

measuring front & rear brakes is part of the first service.

they do this with the wheels in place but can only measure the outside brake pads.

he couldn't find the jobcard to confirm measurements

but he also said it could also be a faulty sensor wire.

car booked in saturday morning for them to have look.

i'll let you all know the outcome.

thanks for all your comments.
