Alarm/Immobiliser indication

I recently bought a 2004 3.0 Sport and don't appear to have any indication the alarm/ immobiliser is activated. The handbook shows a flashing lamp below the rearview mirror, however I don't have this lamp on my mirror. I checked the car for any indication and can't see anything. Can anyone shed some light (no pun intended) on this?

Cheers

Cool

Like the sound of it: You probably have NO alarm installed.

Well to test that take your wife/girlfriend, put her into the car and lock from the outside. After a few seconds she will have to move, and the the alarm should go of, if there is one.

About the indicator the problem could be that the mirror has been replaced with a standard model without alarm.

Good luck!

, if he doesn't have the clown nose under the mirror, then probably no alarm.

After reading the responses, I looked into this a little further and found that the Alarm was/is an optional item!! Being an Australian compliant car it must have an immobiliser that is set automatically, so that side of things is okay.
The car I bought has been fitted with a number of options but not the alarm. It doesn't make sense to me....spend money on a sport pack, full leather etc but not an alarm! My wife suggested maybe the previous owner had an after market tracker system, then removed it when selling the car. Maybe she is right - it will kill me if she is.....
Is it possible to fit a BMW standard alarm on a used car?
