loose gearshift lever

Starting about two weeks ago I noticed that my gearshift level is quite loose. It turns too easily to the right or left or full circle. So much so that it is often not in the right position when I need to push the button to get to the correct gear.

I have experiemented but not found a way to make this tighter. Also looked at the manual and didn't see an explanation.

So what do I do please? I know this is X5-101, but I appreciate some help.

I'm assuming that you have the 5-speed automatic right? What I would do is try to take it apart, carefully. There's probably some sort of fastening/tightening assembly in there......give it a shot.

Yes, I do have the steptronic automatic, but I will have to contemplate this possibility since I more easily break things than repair them.
