It's been pretty hard here in Denver lately, but the mag-chloride they put down is terrible on paint and wheels, so I atleast make an effort to keep the sides sprayed clean. Usually a couple bucks at the do it yourself car wash give you about 3 mins and enough time to just use the rinse spray and get the majority of the crap sprayed off. Avoid spraying windows / moon roof when freezing out as it could cause the seals to expand with water.

Last Sunday I took my X5 to this great car wash in Hampton Bays, NY.

$30 dollars latter the mats were shampooed and the interior & exterior was cleaned. They us a brush less wash and then have about 15 detailing bays.

Certainly do. If there's been a cold snap which means salt on the roads then as soon as it's above freezing I wash the whole thing carefully and use a medium pressure spray underneath and in the wheel wells to make sure all the salt is washed away. If the temp gets above 10deg C then I might put a layer of wax on too. Below that the wax won't set off properly. I always clean the back of the wheels too.

I wish I could, but its too cold and I really don't have the time. If I'm gonna wash the X, I'm gonna invest the time to do a somewhat decent job.

I typically just run it through the car wash to get all the dirt and mag-chloride off. It's never really warm enough to hand wash in the winter.
