Steering Problem ??

Hows it goin boys n girls. I finally bought my X5 a couple of weeks ago but i have a concern with the steering. The car seems very nervous on the road and you almost feel that you have to steer it to keep it in a straight line. The car i feel should steer itself to some degree but to the castor every car has. I sold an 05 Toyota Landcrusier LC5 to buy my X5 and i have to say it was easier to drive from a steering point of veiw but the X5 is better 100 times in every other respect. I love my car but it is hard work at the minute the way it is. It has just had a major service by BMW so i suspect if there were any faults with track rod ends etc they would have picked it up. Any advice is really welcome. Thanks in advance. Peter

What size wheels? 20's (275 F & 315 B) have a tendancy to "track" the road more making the driving experience a bit more engaging. Might also be as simple as balancing & allignment.

Either way - enjoy & :welcome:

My car is an early 2001 model, it has the 19" sport alloys. Im familiar with tramling as we call it ( car tends to hook onto groves in the road etc) but dont think it is that. I'll get wheel ali done and see how i go from there.

I would first look at the tires for unusual wear and then look at front end suspension parts. X5's (well, BMW's in general) are the tightest driving cars I've ever owned (I have 3 currently) and there should be no need to work the wheel during normal driving.

Are you saying too much play in the steering?
