Passenger Airbag / Child Seat Info

Hey there.

Is there a way of disarming the pass airbag so i can sit the child seat in the front?

4.4i 2001 X5 RHD.

Any info would be great.

Thanks.

I'll tell you what upsets me with that airbag. My wife is 5'2 @ about 100 punds, give or take. Sometimes the light is on that the airbag is off. I find this to be troubling to say the least that my 35 year old wife can't safely be a passenger in our 75K vehicle however some Chevy trucks offer this option of turning off the airbag.

I don't understand what you mean when you say that the light shows the airbag is off? Particularly for a 2001 X5. BMW installed a light in the headliner near the sunroof switches showing airbag status for mid 2005 and newer models.

Are you talking about the seatbelt light? If so, then the seat sensor is not functioning correctly. Anything with a weight of 10 lb+ or so will cause the light to come on and an intermittent "gong" to sound that the person in the passenger seat must put on a seatbelt.

In any case to my knowledge BMW does not do this (turn off passenger airbags) for the X5.
