Oil leak? gasket?

So i took my car into a shop for a "check-up"
and when they left my car inside the shop they noticed a tiny lil puddle of oil on their shop floor, they said its a very sloww leak, but they said the oil or oil pan gasket or somethin wit gasket and oil and that the gasket was not tightened or loose?

Can anyone describe what the problem is please? And if its sometthing where i can get under the car and tighten or is it more complicated then that? especially since i have the big metal under-ride guard that gets taken off everytime i get an oil change

From your vague description it sounds like the oil pan bolts are loose for whatever reason. If that's the case they need to tighten the bolts. If the oil pan gasket is leaking, they need to replace it.

If you don't understand something, you should ask your service advisor to take you and show you exactly what the problem is. It's good to be informed about what's going on with your vehicle.

Imola -

Just curious....any chance you can take a couple of pics on the underride installed underneath the car ?

I thought the front bumper had to be removed in order to install the underride bar ? I hope this is not the case and they have to remove your front bumper as well when they need access ;-)

as far as i know the under-ride guard does not connect to the bumper at all. It is connected to the sub frame of the car, the bumper has never been taken off when i got my guard removed

Due to specifications BMWs are “snotty” sometimes after certain mileage. Actually that’s the case with most german cars. So do a simple test: clean out any oil under the car, put a piece of paper or cardboard under the car for 12-10 hours (usually for one night) then measure the oil spot, if it’s over 5 cm in diameter you might have a problem depending on your mileage.
