Exclamation The official 2006 Audi Q7 thread

In anticipation of the inevitable onslaught of questions, observations and comparisons of our X5 to this impending competitor, let me be the first to start an information thread on it

Here's a few pics to start off with:

It appears that the Q7 will come with a 3.0 liter TDI Diesel engine,, or an optional 4.2 liter V8.

Here's a current lists of FAQ's released by Audi:

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes the Audi Q7 special?
The Q7 is the new performance SUV to come out of the Audi stables. It represents a new generation SUV that is sporty and rugged, dynamic both on the road and off and yet lacks nothing in comfort or luxury.

What does Q7 mean?
DThe Q in the name of the Audi SUV stands for quattro permanent all-wheel drive – the technology that 25 years ago revolutionised the World Rally Championship and has set the benchmark for superior drive systems ever since. With the letter Q, one of the marque’s traditional engineering strengths is highlighted. But the Q7 takes this history and turns it into the future with a brand new vehicle concept and unique body design for the perfect ambassador of “Vorsprung durch Technik.” The number 7 indicates the new SUV’s position in the Audi model hierarchy, i.e. between the A6 and the A8.

When will the Audi Q7 be available from dealers?
On 12 September, the Audi Q7 will be unveiled before the international public at the Frankfurt Motor Show (IAA). The European market launch will follow in the first and second quarters of 2006.

When will photos of the Audi Q7 be available?
Q7 Globe is your exclusive source for the latest Audi Q7 pics. Photos of the Audi SUV will be shown to the public for the first time at Frankfurt Motor Show in September. Even after the big event, Q7 Globe will continue to give you new glimpses of and facts on the Audi Q7, to right up until the market launch.

What is the earliest date I can arrange for a test drive?
Test drives will be possible from the beginning of the market launch – i.e. in the first or second quarter of 2006.

What will be the price tag on the Audi Q7?
The price will be roughly in line with the premium SUV segment. A more detailed price list will be published for the Frankfurt Motor Show where the Audi Q7 will make its international debut in September.

How is the Audi Q7 different from the Pikes Peak Quattro?
The Pikes Peak quattro was a concept car while the Q7 is the production vehicle that Audi has developed from it.

What are the key features of the Audi Q7?
he Audi Q7 is a third generation sports utility vehicle. Its design is a fresh new synthesis of ruggedness and sportiness. Then there’s the driving dynamics – handling that’ll make you believe you’re in a sedan, whether on the road or off, coupled with incredible responsiveness regardless of your engine choice and which is made even sharper with the optional adaptive air suspension. The Audi Q7 envelops you in the pleasures of a luxury class vehicle. Sit back and enjoy: multifunctionality, a flexibile interior, feeling of spaciousness, high-quality seats and deluxe automatic air conditioner.

What range of equipment/engines/colours will be available for the Audi Q7?
Detailed facts and figures on equipment, motorisation, etc. will be released over the course of the Frankfurt Motor Show where the Audi Q7 will celebrate its world premiere. At the same time, you will be kept in the know through Q7 Globe and newsletter.

What motorisation options will there be for the Audi Q7 when it reaches the market?
The Audi Q7 will roar onto the scene with responsive FSI and TDI engines: a V8 FSI and a V6 TDI. Further details on the powerplants will be publicised at the world premiere of the Audi Q7 and, of course, in Q7 Globe.

What off-road capabilities will the Audi Q7 have?

The off-road performance of the Audi Q7 will be backed up by the quattro drive with Torsen differential, optional adaptive air suspension, enhanced ESP and typical SUV high clearance.

Will quattro permanent all-wheel drive come as standard on the Audi Q7?
The Q in the name of the Audi SUV stands for quattro. A robust quattro drive train is one of the key features of the Q7.

That's not as bad as I thought it'd be. Looks like a Kenworth radiator could fit behind that oversized Edsel grille though.

Looks to me like someone is taking a few pages from GM's playbook. Take the same vehicle and put on slightly different sheetmetal and trim components and call it a new vehicle. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't this just a variation of the Toureg/Cayanne with Audi appointments?

Audi is just a Volkswagen with the VW symbol hammered out into 4 rings. OOOO

I didn't post it in the lounge because it's not "Off Topic". I guarantee this will be a daily topic in the main forum in the weeks to come since everyone will be comparing it to the X5 just like they did when the Infinity FX35/45 and Pepper were introduced.

I actually saw Q7 on a truck alongwith few other Audi cars the other day, all covered with a thin cloth car cover and cutout for glass area. The Q7 was the last car on the back of truck and I could easily recognize it as I have seen several pictures of it by now. Its much bigger than Toureg and Cayenne. Not sure if it uses the same wheelbase .

Audi are playing cat and mouse with release of pics/info regarding the Q7.
I'm sure this has lost them a load of sales for anyone planning a replacement.
That said, Audi's are one of the best built cars in the world,
quality of fit and finish is outstanding.
Coming from an allroad, I know this to be true.
