No need, since you already have projectors all you have to do is pick up an aftermarket HID kit. Much cheaper and will create the same effect

Jlevi, thanks for your advise, but I would like to stay factory on this upgrade, plus I heard that the bmw version angles up/down on startup... that is something special. (j/k) Anway, I can pick up the headlights w/xenons but not sure if I need anything else, wiring etc...

if you go oem, in addition to the xenon headlights, you need the levelers, the motor for the adaptive lights, the ballasts, and then the headlights.
imho, its way too expensive to do that if you dont care about autoleveling or adaptive headlights. i think this retrofit will run you ~1200, whereas you can get a set of ballasts, harness, and bulbs from an aftermarket company for 300, and for all basic purposes work the same and look the same. there is a part schematic for the xenons with all the parts, do a search and you should be able to find it. here you go http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...01&hg=63&fg=05 http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...=63&fg=05&hl=1 btw, if your going to replace your headlights, you might want to look at the euro clears on ebay, they alone cost about 1k, so 2200 + labor Last edited by Vitriol; 02-28-2006 at 04:49 PM. |

If you want all the bells and whistles (self test on startup/self leveling, adaptive lights) then you have to go with the proper kit. The previous model kit with less in it was in the region of $1400 - $1600 plus fitting. I would say the kit for your vehicle would be at least that. I believe you need a special steering rack to make the adaptive part work so figure that in also.
It also requires fitting sensors on the F/R suspension, and connecting everything to the vehicle wiring. You can see the instructions for older models here: http://www.bmwmotorsports.org/pdf/xenonretroinstall.pdf If you just want to put a set of OEM Xenons in and wire it up it should be much easier. All you need are light units/bulbs and ballast. |
