how to replace rear pnuematic spring(s)

Replacing the pneumatic spring is a simple 30 minute procedure. I think it’s easier than IPOD tour BMW connection!

Parts /tools required:
Pneumatic rear spring (I paid $300 at dealer ship)
2 circlip’s PN 07129934916 (the old ones get banged up very easy removing them)
Floor jack & jack stands
Screw driver to remove clips
10mm socket for plastic rear compartment trim

Inside the truck:
1. Remove fuses 79 & 87 in the rear fuse panel
2. Remove luggage compartment floor panel
3. Remove spare tire
4. Remove plastic trim that covers whichever side covering side that needs to be replaced

5. Carefully unclip rubber protection cap over top of pneumatic spring

6. Remove the 2 cirlips on top of the pneumatic spring

7. Disconnect pneumatic pipeline. Clips similar to air tool from compressor

Outside the truck:
8. Loosen lug nuts
9. Jack up truck – use jack stands!
10. Remove rear tire
11. Locate clip under pneumatic spring. The clip is right above the rear axle.

12. Compress the pneumatic spring and remove from truck
13. Insert new pneumatic spring. Note small alignment tab on the bottom
14. Replace clip under pneumatic spring
15. Push pneumatic spring up aligning up the 2 clips and 1 alignment pin on the top

Inside the truck
16. Replace 2 circlips on top of the pneumatic spring
17. Reconnect pneumatic pipeline. Clips similar to air tool from compressor
18. Carefully replace rubber protection cap over top of pneumatic spring
19. Replace plastic trim that covers whichever side covering side that needs to be replaced
20. Replace spare tire
21. Replace fuses 79 & 87 in the rear fuse panel
22. Verify you hear the pneumatic spring filling with air

Outside the truck:
23. Replace the rear tire
24. Test drive and verify ride height.

NOTE: I lost my dealer DIS rear lowering replacing the pneumatic spring...
