BD-

Mine will do this from time to time as well. Obviously it does it all the time in Sport mode. I usually just run mine in D most of the time. Doesn't the system try and copy your driving style????? I swear its electronics just trying to decide how you want to drive and doing its best to help you out.

This is looking more and more like a re-flash issue to my relief...

I too find it hard to tell when the downshift to 1st gear is made and get the feeling it is made the same time as coming to a complete stop...

Will probably get a re-flash beginning of next month and will let you know if i fixes the problem...

everyone should re edit there statement and include year of assembly. Its hard to understand who has what. pre and post facelift x5's are totally different beasts. one has five speed the other six.

I have the same problem on my 2001 4.4.

I just called in 2 stealers, the one I hate the most (Out here in Brooklyn, LifeQuality) i cant stand them, anyways they said its going to cost me around $560 to upgrade the transmission software. I was like yea okay,....

Anyways After calling the second one down in Manhattan (Much much nicer people to work with down there), they said that its going to cost me around $350 for the uprgade.

for $350 I am willing the suffer of taking a day off of work and going to the city and getting this upgraded, The only thing with doing that is, how do I know that 1) this will solve the hard down shift issue?, and 2) How do we know whats the CURRENT version I have in the X?

It would make no sense at all to upgrade to the same software version as I currently have now would it? Does anybody know how to check the current tranny software?

I'm gonna take mine to my mechanic at the beginning of the month, he used to work for the stalership then opened his own garage, (At cheaper rates and better workmanship) he is well known as the best bmw mechanic here in cyprus, he has all of the upgrade computers and soft and since I have to take the car to him anyway cause I just bought it second hand (Another worry I have) I will get him to do the upgrade...

Going off on a tangent...

I took my old E46 to the Stealership once when I had some cash burning a hole in my pocket, not only did they take my cash and fix nothing but they also busted my instrument cluster, you can imagine my reaction when they offered me a free quotation...

I had no proof so there was nothing I could do except try to fix the old cluster myself, turned out that I just has to re-set the fuse, I'm conviced they did this deliberatly...

After a recommendation from a friend I now go to my current mechanic that got fed up with the stealerships cowboy ways, he is one of the reason I always stick with the Bimmer...

$350 seems steep!!! Cars may be a lot more expensive her but the garages are much cheaper fortunately, I guess it's a trade off...

Anyway if you can hold out for a few weeks I will post my results on the soft upgrade...

I noticed that I posted this thread 3 years ago! Wao! Time flys when your having fun! I still have my X5 and now I have 125K on the clock. What I did to fix the kick when coming to a stop was I disconnected the battery over night. Once I did this, I never had a problem again! FYI, try this and see if it works for you, it did for me. Hope this helps someone.

so, from what year to year what does this method is required. I have a 2006 4.8is and I sometime experience the same effect. I have the dealership checked it about three months ago; the noticed some seal was bad; they replace the seal and filled with new fluid and with was doing better. I don't if they did the reflash thing. Please advice.
