UPDATE:

03/21/07

Just got back from the body shop, they are going to have to cut and re-weld on massive chunks of the Unibody. 6 week wait to get on the measuring machine. Estimation of damage due soon.

BTW Do any of you really care for the updates. If not I have no problem not doing them. I just know that I am like a curious george and I would want to know.
Either way thanks.

UPDATE:

The Trooper from the Washington State Patrol that responded just called me with some mixed news.

Okay, so it turns out that the driver in the Ford Ranger that hit me does not have insurance. Boy is he in for a screwed up life now. The Ford Explorer that I thought was pushed into by the van was a witness.

He has placed 100% of the blame on the Ford Ranger. He was traveling at a very high rate of speed and the posted speed limit had been reduced to 45mph at that part of the freeway as it ends there.

He gave me the name, number and address for both of the other drivers (I'm not the type, but is that a generally wise decision? ) I called the driver that I was pushed into, he was very understanding and was very worried about me from what he saw. He kept saying "damn that was such a nice car, why did he have to ruin that car"

So I guess I don't get reimbursed for my rental, that sucks. Never thought I would need rental coverage and it is like $15 a month extra. I figured that it would add up quickly. Oops!

My insurance pays for the repair of my car and the car I got pushed into and goes after the assets of the person who hit me. He has a home address but I'll bet he lives with his family. So much for them going after his house. Well atleast I don't have to worry about any of that, my insurance company does.

Biggest problems:

1) I wont get to drive my beautiful girl anymore.
2) This is going on my CLUE report as a loss and will cost me more in the future if I switch insurance companies.
3) I am hurt
4) I will have to pay for the rental
5) Months of painfull rehab ahead.

All in all, not bad considering I have my life.

Thanks to all the well wishers, this is a great community. I will post updates here when I get my new ride.

Well, on the way back from my knee surgeons for a follow up appointment, some asshole decides that he wants to run his piece of shit Ford Ranger into the back of my X5 at 50 miles per hour, pushing me into the back of a Chrysler Minivan, pushing the Chrysler Minivan into the back of a Ford Explorer.

State Patrol kept asking me who was driving the truck that hit me, I guess one of the two didn't even have a license (oh yea!!!). All I can think about is the massive amount of pain in my neck and back and how I would like to get out of my X and pound the crap out of the moron behind me. Too much pain, can't do it.

Ambulance arrives, puts neck brace on me. I am able to step down to the stretcher and backboard, don't want them screwing up the X's interior just in case.

Sky, all I see is sky, thank God it quit raining and the pavement was dry, thankfully I don't have to get rained on. Ambulance, cold, very cold, shaking from adrenalin wearing off, shaking hurts, oh my God it hurts.

Airbags, why the hell didn't the airbags go off, BMW has some serious explaining to do.

Bumps, lots of bumps, damn who makes the suspension for these ambulances anyways, Kia?

Half way to first Hospital, they turn me down too full, now off to Swedish 20 miles away, get to Swedish, sorry accident speed to fast, redirect to Harborview, they have a trauma unit. Fuck just get me to the hospital!, got to pee so bad.

Keep calling wife to tell her what hospital they are taking me too. Finally get it right Harborview.

Can't pee, can't stand up, can't sit up, can't do anything until they run all their tests, try to pee in cup, not happening. God why couldn't my wife gotten off her lazy ass and just gone with me, wouldn't have happened in the first place, would have had carpool.

Feels like hours have passed, 2nd Morphine shot doing nothing for the pain. God why doesn't it work? Wife still not here???

Sir where is your wife? I don't know I called her. Time passes, 6 hours now, still no wife. Call her moms house, line busy, OMG she is on the fricken internet. Call her cell phone, yep she is SITTING ON HER BUTT SURFING THE INTERNET 6 HOURS AFTER I CALLED HER AND TOLD HER I WAS BEING RUSHED TO THE HOSPITAL IN AN AMBULACE.

She never shows up. 7 hours later. She just won the ultimate prize DIVORCE!

Please excuse me for my rant, I am in extreme pain right now, I have 5 oxycodone in me and two IV doses of Morphine.

Oh my poor car, better to me than my wife, at least I know I can count on my X.

Edit:

Here are some pictures I took when I went to go get my sons car seat. I didn't have time to take too many or get all of the damage because I had someone waiting on me. Please excuse the poor quality. They were taken by a digital camera that I got for free at Circuit City during their Black Friday sales event and it was quite dark in the room where my X was parked.

Note: Can you believe how well the front faired? Just a couple of scratches. The minivan I was pushed into was totally screwed up.

Sorry man, my airbags didnt pop on my 323i when I was rear-ended and pushed into the car in front of me either. I think the inital impact has to be front or side. I was hit at by a 1/2 ton GMC (I told the cop it was a Chevy until I found the GMC logo on the street) going 50 and walked away with a couple bruises.

This guy was nice enough to back up and ram me again before jumping the median and taking off. Oh yeah the truck was found empty 2 hours later with beer bottles all over it. The guy driving it didnt have insurance!
Even better his dad used to be a cop so he got off with probation and community service, even after the cop noted "attempted vehicular manslauter" on his report.

Sorry to hear about your day - hope you are Okay. Wife never showed??? Airbags won't usually deploy in rear end collision and the front impact when you were pushed into the car probably wasn't severe enough to warrant deploying. Did you hit the steering wheel?

Anyway GET WELL SOON.

Yea, my biggest peve is it is the 9th car accident of my life. I live with pain every day of my life because of them. I have now been driving twice, both times rear ended. Cop said very little damage to the X, Can you believe that. From my mirrors I could see that they Ranger was WAY beyond totalled. The Chrysler had at least 4k in damage, the Ford Explorer, I couldn't see any damage. I couldn't get out of the car it hurt so bad. I came 3 inches from slamming into the steering wheel.

From the impact though I would be willing to bet a crap load of money that there is frame damage though, probably totalled (I hope), I really don't want my car back all bondo'd up. Especially considering it will most likely be my insurance paying for it. I don't think I have ever been hit that hard. I saw him in my rearview mirror and didn't even have 1/2 second to try to pull into the other lane. And he was over 200 feet from me when I first saw him.

i think you can safely assume that your x wasn't totaled. every crash that has been posted here showed that the x is a tough and rough machine

were you at a stoplight? or on a highway?
