x5

Hello. I am new in this site and I was hoping to find someone who can help me in with my X5 issues. I have a 4.4 x5 2000 with 115000 miles and was driving in the highway when suddenly I lost power as if the transmission slip and the engine went to neutral. Luckily I was able to pullover on the shoulder safely. I had to have the X5 towed since it does not get into gear anymore either reverse or drive. when I shift it to it. The sound I hear when I shift it to D or R is a loud clicking sound. Do I need a new transmission ? I heard it cost about $4500 for parts alone and maybe $1500 for labor. By the way, when this happen the computer fault display in the dash displayed transmission failsafe prog.
