Clunk under high torque

I have an '01 X5 3.0 with 167,000 miles and I have kept it well-serviced. I am experiencing one to many clunks under the car when taking off quickly. It reminded me of my E34 when the center support bearing went out. My mechanic first replaced driveshaft - The clunk seemed to move forward to the front right. Then he changed the right cv assembly - now it clunks more toward front left. Running out of patience and money. Any thoughts? Transfer case? I already have new motor mounts, thrust arm bushings, and ball joints.

Hi,In my quest to find out my kluunks on my e34, (I have kluunk on pull of and humps seeming to come from diff or CV's but can also be propshaft/centerbearing)I compiled a list of all possibilities of kluunks so far. I found out that there are tons of possible causes for kluunks under car sway bars is a cheap option and also a "kluunker"I heard a BMW mechanic say by coincidence, that something to do with engine plates are common on X5 to kluunk due to non lubrication or something.Maybe anything below here helps.1 - Check/Change Brakepads front (and rear if not OEM and if nescessary) check callipers (change pads, bleed brakes)(Found on net --> car was making rattling/clunking noises from the rear and it was the aftermarket brake pads rattling around. Changed to OEM pads and the noise was gone. The clunking noise was primarily caused by the rear brake pads being very very worn.)If sound not gone with changing brakepad, Check if possible for identification of clunking sound:Origin of "clunking sound" when going over bumps, taking of with car or putting in reverse.Best to take car for 10 or 15 minute longer drive to hear the sound. Please check this checklist.- sway bar / - antirollbar links and their bushingsAll E34s Front sway bar: 31 35 1 134 582Rear sway bar: 33 55 1 135 307http://www.bmwe34.net/E34main/Maintenance/Suspension/sway_link.htm 25$ a pair- Front and rear subframe bolts / bushings (tighten subframe bolts)- front struts/mounts.- thrust arm bushings- bushings on both stabilzer bar links- Ball joints, thrust arms- Exhaust rubbers / rubber muffler/midpipe hanger.- Propshaft (Check universal joints / bearings)- rear diferential (when moving propshaft manually when car from ground with wheels I hear also the - sound.)- CV joints
