Cool 30 days in.....

Hi all,

Passed the 30 day ownership window today.

Bought a 2001 3.0 X5 , 84k miles, manual tranny, factory hitch.
Paid $17900.00 US out the door.

So far I have:
Changed oil and filter
Siphoned/replaced brake and PS fluid
Changed the cabin filter
Installed rear brakes and a new wear sensor
Installed plexiglass hood protector

Has worn Michelin X4 energys on it I don't like them.....thinking about some Continental Cross Contacts.......what do you think?

Washed it today and when I opened the hatch to dry the sills I heard the latch solenoid click but the latch remained open?! Now I can only open the hatch using the console button it does not respond to my key any longer. Am I another addition to the 2001 trunk latch thread?

Leaving on a long road trip tomorrow and I am bummin about this

As an enginner I appreciate good design but I am a butt head for performance......back in the day crap design was kicked to the curb, I can't beleive how low our standards have become. Anyone remember the Jap cars of the 60's and early 70's.....they responed to the bad image by raising their reliability......took em 15 years or so.....hopefully the braintrust at Bavarian Motor Works can find their way back to the garage and away from their brokers........hehe
Who thinks BMW should pay this forum for doing their field testing? They could at least buy us some ice cream......

On a more positive note my heartfelt gratitude for all the contributors here. I would not have purchased my X5 had i not read up on it first here.

I will continue to ask questions until everyone is happy........

TTGuy,
Welcome and congrats on your manual trans...there are only
a handful of us.

"Quality" is in the eye of the beholder...our '01s are bumping
up against the quality/time ceiling, I suspect.

Welcome, my rear hatch failed in exactly the same way. Water had gotten into the connector of the rear actuator and corroded the contacts. Cleaning the contacts fixed the problem. Ultimately I had the entire switch assembly replaced with an upgraded assembly. Good luck!

corred contacts

Great, so glad I am not the only one with this issue. May I ask how I may access the corroded contacts until the budget allows for an upgraded assembly?

Thanks in advance. Put 900 miles on her in the last two days averaging 22-23.5 mpg. I never expeceted this good gas mileage.

Pete
