Stop by your local autozone or equivalent and ask them to read the fault code (they will do it for free) and post it here. It could be any number of different faults so more info is needed to diagnose.

I think it may be the oil inspection light.
The info should be on the home page.

This is your vehicles way of letting you know it's time for it to be serviced. And no it would not be good just to ignore it. Consider MD's question ("How many miles on your X and what warranty/maintenance prog. do you have remaining, if any?")

Blue - sorry, didn't see the 'inspection light' part in your post.
Here is the link to what is performed at the various service intervals. http://www.xoutpost.com/articles/x5/e...-schedule.html If you are under warranty I would bring it to the dealership. Unfortunately in many cases the "Inspection" involves an oil change, reset service light, a quick run through the car wash, and a bill in the high hundreds. If the warranty is done and its on your dime I would have an independant change the oil/filter and run through the check list for a lot less $ or do it yourself. |

hi, the x is out of warranty and has 57787 miles. yea only reason i'm reluctant to bring it to stealer cuz i know for sure they gonna overcharge everything.

Do a Search on Inspection II, and look on Front Page for Insp II info;
you'll see it is mostly an expensive "inspection", and I suspect few of the items are inspected... If you are in mood for more than a cursory glance and oil/filter change, (which those lights are calling for), look in manual or this site, print it out and take your list to a good Indie shop that specializes in BeamERs. Get that oil change and have the wrench go over the obvious. Having no idea of "what's been done to your X", over time, it's foolish for me to make some wild azz guesses and offer up a list of things that shoulda/coulda/might break. If the car is fairly new to you, have your key run at any stlr for its service history, before you make the trip to an Indie shop. All of the above is opin only, but common sense and from knowledge found on this forum from even casual reading. GL,mD
