Performance Chips

Lately I have been hearing alot about these performance chips that you plug into your diagnostic outlet under the dash. They claim to raise HP and lower gas milage. Can you feel a difference or does it feel like you have wasted 150 dollars.

No benefit on a naturally-aspirated engine, IMO. You risk not passing emissions tests. Any performance gains are miniscule. This is particularly true of anything costing $150.

On the other hand, with a forced induction engine like the 335 there are benefits to be had, with the associated possible complications with the manufacturer's engine warranty.

with proper modifications gains can be realizedwith ECU retuning on naturally asperated cars...but I will agree that the $150 thing is probably a ripoff

Those are simple piggy back ECU systems that while slightly effective, are not as great as something like our Speed Innovation complete ECU retune. This software remaps your stock timing, torque, throttle response, rev limiter and top speed limiter to provide a more effective retuning and even better gains. The software is coded within the limits of the stock engine so you do not risk running the vehicle too rich or over revving the engine.

Pricing for 00-06 X5 2.5, 3.0, 4.4 and 4.6 is $649 and the 4.8is is $749. Please feel free to contact us with any questions!

Let's just say that the dyno is completely accurate, corrected, calibrated, etc, and skip that particular arm wrestle.

I suppose value is in the eye of the purchaser, but gaining 9 hp at 6000 rpm, in a 5000 lb vehicle (using the figures off the above web site for the 3.0 engine) doesn't seem like a significant difference. Yes, the dyno shows the power coming on sooner, but whether the same power is available at 4000 rpm or 4300 rpm, reading off the graph shown (no model given), I don't think the driver is going to notice any difference. Just my $0.02.

You wont notice any hp gains, but you will notice a change in rev limits and gear changes.

there are a lot of chip tuning softwares...and do not agree with driverX5...you can gain some/few hp...but this is not really good way to go...because nobody will give you any guarantee with your engine...will work on higher RPM...you'll shorten your engine life...

IMO, not worth the money. Save up till you have around 10G's and Supercharge it. Other then that you're getting minimal gains. Seeing as no matter how many times I ask people that have "modded" their X's don't seem to dyno them, so the real gain is pretty much unknown.
