Fluid Change.

Just did a complete transfusion. Engine oil/filter, t'mission fluid/filter, t'case fluid, front & rear diffs.
T'mission fluid was shot at 48K miles. T'case fluid was on the way out. Diffs could have been left alone.
Now running straight Amsoil Synthetic in everything.

Nice how much did the dealer charge you? I'm looking to do the same.

Just interested in your comments that the trans fluid was shot, and that the transfer case fluid was on the way out. What is that based on, lab analysis?

Black, stinky t'mission fluid. My mechanic gave his expert opinion.

Hi Zulu -

Just curious, what did you use for your Tranny ? Did you use the Amsoil Universal ATF ? I'd be very curious what your experiance is with that fluid ?

I have Esso in the tranny, and Amsoil Severe Gear in the diffys.
I recently changed my PS out as well with Amsoil ATF since I had some lying around and is Dex III rated. The Amsoil ATF was too thin IMO - PS was too boosted and noisy like a sunnva-itch.

Hope your fluid swap went well !
JCL, I did not do a UOA on my tranny fluid, but I changed mine out at 32Kish and it was pretty gunky as well if I recall.

I've had Amsoil Synthetic ATF in my Explorer LTD since the first change. My mechanic uses nothing else. He has used it in everything he owns plus customer's vehicles including commercials.
I did a lot of research and spoke to a number of fluid engineers at different companies and they all said the BMW Lifetime, ooops sorry, 100K fluid change was baloney.

Do you feel any difference (+/-) on the tranny oil change? My X just turned 46K and I am deciding if I should change it. Thanks.

No real "feelings" to report. I think everbody decides that new fluids make the vehicle feel better. Typical placebo effect IMHO.
