so I failed emissions today... Check engine light LED missing...

Ok so I had my brother do my emissions today and it failed for the lack of a engine light when the ignition is turn to first position. I never noticed that there was no light everytime I started it. So I removed the cluster to see I can just replace the burnt bulb. Well no bulb just a soldered LED thing. But the problem is no LED thing was there. It looked like someone snapped it off in ordered to get rid of the light. I can see some scratch markes around where the LED used to be, NICE!!! So it looks like I have to get a new cluster from the dealer.

I was suppose to have BMW replace the cluster with no cost, but the service techs couldn't find 12v at the service port under the dash. I figured out that there was a wire disconnected from when I installed my Headunit. Now I hope they will still honor the replacement gauge. BTW anyone no if the dealer will have an issue installing a used gauge (ebay,etc..) if I can't get a free one through them? Rob

That sounds pretty shady. Nonetheless, if you replace the cluster, it'll have to be recoded by the dealer.

The only good thing is that there isn't any code being thrown for a check engine. So once it's repalced the light should be off. I hope?!

Look at a normal cluster. See what kind of led is used and try to solder one back on the board if you can.

If it is SM it will be a pain to solder but worth the effort. Just make sure you get it orientated for polarity.

Do you have a spare LED? It's not an actual LED. It looks like a small white square box with a small circle light in the middle. If you are willing to sell one of them I'd be game. Also how do you know which way is the polarity? Thanks

Heres a very unfocused pic of my cluster. Do you think I can just remove the LED from the rear Fog light and install it in the SES position? Man I hope BMW calls me back today it would life so much easier...

HUGE Thanks to Zulu95. He pointed me in the right direction to fixing the LED. I just soldered a new LED from Radio Shack and it's fixed. Also the SES light only comes on before start-up and shuts off once running, so no codes.
