towing with a 3.0L

I've been toying around the idea of towing my e36 M3 track car with my 3.0L X5. I would be towing the car locally and no more than 150miles round trip for track/auto-x events. The car weighs @ 3000lbs and I've been looking at aluminum trailers that weigh in around 1500 lbs. Would the 6cyl and transmission be up to the task?

The 3.0 can easily pull 5000. You should have no problems at alll.
I pull a 6500 boat twice a year with my 3.0 and it has pently of power, untill 60mph.

I pull a 4000 boat once in awhile, No issues. "untill 60mph" on an huge incline...

I have towed up to 5000 lbs with a 3.0, including on hills. No problems. You won't be accelerating like you would unladen, but it performs well, just plan ahead and ensure that your trailer has brakes (unbraked trailer weight limit is 1600 lbs).

Cool guys, thanks. I will start looking into an aluminum car hauler. They range from 1-1500 lbs so I should be under the 5k towing limit.

It's not so much as how much it can pull as it is how good you can stop.

The 3.0i is rated at 6,000lbs just like the 4.4. Make sure you connect trailer brakes.
