Roof rack recommendations?

I'm looking for a rack to hold a surfboard on the X5. Any experience/opinions with the BMW Profile 2000, Thule, or any others? I want easy to use, as low noise as possible and clean look. Thanks.

I got my Thule crossbars from here . I don't keep them on all the time, because you do get some extra noise from them. They only take a couple of minutes to put on.

Here is what mine looks like with the crossbars in place.

I just got my Thule stuffs a few days ago and their built quality looks top notch. I've considered the OEM Profile 2000 system, but it lacks the optional locking capability that the Thule provided.

My Thule's have moved over after five years on an ML and fit perfectly...
Noise less than the ML because the popup screen does a decent job when the panorama is open.

Hey Statdoc...good luck with Katrina, I see FloraBama in your location...

Yeah, I am sitting here, with one eye on the Weather Channel, and the other looking at the trees blowing in the ever-increasing wind. Got the notebook computer on my lap, to keep up with additional info (and answering concerned emails from friends).

I keep assuming that I am really only going to get the edge of the storm. I hope.

I have the Profile 2000, on and off in a couple minutes and can be done by yourself. Well worth the money.

Question

By the way... to all you Thule owners:

Did you cut your LB58's bars down by a few inches, or just leave the length as it comes?
