X-pipe vs. Straight pipes

I am getting my resonator removed and I am not sure if I should get straight pipes or an x-pipe. Any suggestions or opinions from anyone who has done this mod is greatly appreciated. Thanks

Go with the straight pipes, it's louder and sounds better. What type of X5 do you have?

I don't know how it would sound on a 3.0. Has anyone posted that's done that with a 3.0?

I have straight pipes on my 3.0 with the Supersprint....i love the sound but does sound raspy some times at high revs...although from the inside it sounds great all the time! and it burbles on down shifts which is awsome

I have the magnaflow xpipe with remus, Very nice. I think you might be more prone to the "cold start rattle" and a possible loss of power with the straight pipe.

i dunno bout the 3.0.. but i had straight pipes on my 4.8 and it was way to raspy for me, the loudness was good and loud and i licked that, but the rasp was way to much for my taste.. almost as if i was driving some old muscle car with no cats and no mufflers.. so i went to the xpipe option and it still is louder then stock, but nothin obnoxious,

but hey who knows u have a 3.0 that prolly does not produce a lot of sound so maybe going wit straight pipes might be perfect

I had straight pipes on my 3.0. There was a noticable growl upon startup, and also to about 2500 rpm. After that, I did not notice a difference from inside the car. However, when listening from the outside, it does sound a loud louder. I did not like the straight pipes because they shook the stock mufflers and tips roughly. Also there is a lot of exhuast coming out, and so the garage would always smell. Standing behind the car, I could feel the exhuast about 3 away, pouring out. Eventually I put on the stock resonator. I felt like I gained more power when accelerating. But its up to you.

I had the resonator removed and straight pipes installed, with the intention of installing aftermarket mufflers i.e. Remus, or SS, etc. But after driving with the setup the way it is right now, I think I'll put the money towards something else, as the straight pipes with the stock 4.4L mufflers sound pretty good....
