I too have the 3.0d Sport X5. Thinking of getting it Chipped aswell.
Am based in the UK. Anyone know of a reputable place to get this done? I've heard that BHP goes from 218 to 250BHP torque increases aswell. Top speed from 130MPH to 135. But dont quote me. Also am i correct, i assume that i am, that the warranty would be void? would i also be correct to say that the maintenence/service pack might be effected if the car is chipped? Guess only worth doing, if their is a big difference in performance!! If you get the ECU remapped back to original settings, would BMW know that it was ever remapped in first place? |

All the major BMW tuners (Hartge,Schnitzer)do not reprogramme the ECU!They use "powerboxes",which are plug and play.In the UK,you should give
Birds of UK a call as they are the official Hartge importer and their "box "is one of the best. These powerboxes are connected to the fuel pressure sensor on the commom rail and these change the signal (voltage) before the ECU reads them. You can just disconnect them before going to service your car at Bmw dealer!!!Although ,you can get more power by having your ECU reprogrammed, there is always the risk that when you car goes to a dealer for servicing, the program will be deleted should Bmw do a system reset on your car, which is a very common task!!!! |

I have my 3.0d (184hp) ecu remapped to 220hp and 490Nm. Before I go to the dealer for something serious, the tuningshop just puts the original data back and after the visit, the remap to the tuned data. All free of charge. The dealer by the way knows about it, and even if I would forget to set all back to original, they just overwrite it. Hell, they even told me where to go to get the car tuned....

BTW, the fuel consumption drops with about 1l/100km, but I don't notice it anymore as it's too much fun to squeeze everything out of the engine (and then it settles at about 10.5l/100km)

I ALSO HAVE A 184HP: PLEASE TELL ME:
ARE NOW THE PERFORMANCE VERY NEAR TO THE NEW MODEL? DO YOU TEST THE 218HP VERSION AND CAN YOU TELL ME SOMETHING? WHAT ABOUT SMOKE? HOW MANY KM OR MILES DID YOU DO? I HEAR SOMETIMES THAT YOU COULD HAVE PROBLEMS WITH THE STEPTRONIC FOR THE MAJOR TORQUE. AT THE SAME SPEED, YOU THINK THE FUEL CONSUMPTION ARE HIGHER? THE TUNER SAYS THE OPPOSITE. I'LL BE VERY GRATEFUL IF YOU COULD TELL ME SOMETHING, I'M PLANNING TO DO IT IN VERY SHORT TIME.
