Autozone unable to linkup to the X......

Was coming home from a family deal tonight and the SES light kicked on. The X is running fine though. Stopped at Autozone to have them just pull the code so I can get a starting point as to what might be going on. They tried and tried and tried but were unable to get the scanner to "link" to the X system.

My question, has anyone ever heard of this? Is it possible for BMW to put some type of "block" on vehicles making SES codes unreadable only by certain BMW readers?

Or is there possibly a deeper problem....

Thanks as always.

Mark

I have my own code scanner and I have never had problems reading & resetting my X5's codes. BMW can not have them block because in NYS to pass inspection the DMV needs to read all the codes and readiness test lights.

It was an under educated Autozone person who did not set the configuration of the scanner right. If they do not have a setting for BMW the generic setting will work.

Yes, I had something similar happen at the dealer. I was having a new gauge cluster installed. This was the second time I went there to have it installed. They couldn't get the computer to communicate to the X5. So I was just about to leave when the tech found another way to communicate to the X. Now I'm not sure what was the problem or which way finally worked but I wouldn't worry about it being your X. It's happened to me too..GL and go see the dealer to atleast let you know what code is tripping..

Was able to get the code at a different auto parts place today...

Code P1161.....

Looks like I'll be replacing some PITA hoses on the back side of the engine tomorrow.
