Wierd '04 questions

So I drove by the local BMW dealer and had a look-see at an '04 Black Sapphire/Black Dakota X5 3.0i and there were some anomalies I wanted to "see what's up on..."
I'll swing by with my camera when they are closed tomorrow...
it had the 16"s from the 02-ish X5's on all the wheels AND spare and it also had a plastic trim piece over the tailgate.
I don't want to sound like a dumbass going over this with the CA, was this ever a "thing"?

welll, it had those rims (albeit beat to high heaven) which flipflopped from "we swapped them for another customer" to "she must have done that" and a plastic tailgate trim piece. other than that and the monotone it was pretty good, just beaten, and of course the OCD anomalies right there...

okay, so they are 17's. there is still something up with this car... any idea why the back trip piece would be the black plastic off of an '01?

Could you be a little more clear on the piece you are referring to? Perhaps post a pic of it?

IDK if you can see from that pic, but the piece of trim over the license plate and trunk handle is matte, plastic black. The X5's pre-facelift without premium pack had that, but since then it has always been matched with the car.

I dont think any X5 had that not painted and those wheels are off of a pre 04 3.0
