After I purchased the X5 it felt like it had no power off the line and when I went to stop the downshift from 2-1 was very harsh. I went to the dealer and explained what was going on and he told me it sounded like I needed a software update, 20min later it was done and it was a total difference. Now I have power off the line and no more harsh downshifting. I hope this helps.

BimmerDude 8 tenth of a second is not a good reason to pick a 4.8is over a 4.4i. My 01 4.4i feels stronger and faster than my fathers 06 4.8is. I have driven it several times in the last couple of months and I don't like the feel of valvetronic. Don't get me wrong it is brand new and looks awsome. I will most likly buy it from him in 5 or 6 years. But for now I love my 01 X.

I think you had a prblem with the adaptive tranny in that one. My 4.8is is a freaking rocket for a truck- my other cars are a Porsche GT3 with over 400 hp and my wifes 335i twin turbo and the truck is amazing for something that big. I drive the 4.8is like I stole it and use the manumatic as much as possible so it knows I like spirited driving. I drove a 4.6 at the dealer and it wasnt even in the same league. you also said it was a 4.8 not an is was it a 4.8i or a 4.8is
I think the is has more hp like 355 the 07 4.8i doesnt even have that much hp

wow 16.1 - 14.4 = 1.7 seconds
I would take $30K over 1.7 seconds anytime. By the way thats how much you save of a difference between 3.0 and 4.8 brand new. Maybe its just me, I think I can afford 1.7s lag than $30K. My dream sport car is a Porsche.

Those numbers are for the E53. And the difference is not even close to $30k.
