How frequent is an oil change with OEM parts.
I always use BMW oil and oil filter bought at local BMW dealer but have a local mechanic do the job. Do you think 3K miles is a little excessive as BMW oil and filter would last for at least 7.5K miles. But I have it done anyway. What do you guys think? Should I extend the oil life to at least 5K miles between oil changes? By the way, everything cost $72 including parts and labor. I dont mind changing early since its not that expensive but still think I am a little obssessive about having oil change. Thanks.

I think that u should wait for at least 3 green lights on your comp. display to go off, tha's about 6-8k and even that is too early, there is not too many part in BMW enginn that rabbing against each other so the oli has all the specification for long time. If u are using BMW oil and changing every 3k that's sbssesive...

I think 7.5k is sufficient unless you seriously drive it hard all the time. Heck, I don't even do 3k with my Lexus ES which runs on normal motor oil.
