X5 Repair Manual

After trying to find a repair manual for my 2001 X5, I decided to take a chance and buy the following CD's off of Ebay. I installed them this morning, and am surprised by how much information they really have.

For under $20 shipped, it is a pretty good resource for the DIY.

NINCHS - Strange the links you provided don't contain any information on repairs. The people here on X5 World are a great resource for the majority of questions asked. I was looking for a repair manual that would cover replacing the waterpump and several common areas on a BMW - This is my 5th BMW and guess what shit breaks - if you want to go to a dealer for repairs thats fine, I like to do my own repairs.

I have no affiliation to the site I posted. I was just trying to share information with my fellow X5 owners. If you don't need it great - enjoy your X5 and let others enjoy theirs

This being my forth Bmw I know that stuff breaks and I too avoid the dealer when ever possible. 5 minutes on google will find you factory, haynes, and bentley repair manuals online. If you want to download it I'm sure there are plenty of torrents out there where you can download it for free using a program such as bit torrent. Like mentioned above.

John...I got similar sets of CDs for mine and must say that for about $20 bucks with all the information at your finger tips, it is much well worth it. For the X5, there isn't a haynes or bentley manual available yet...at least not one that I could find. As for googling...it's basically a hit or miss. I'm all for free stuffs, but with all the detailed information available to me without wasting much time searching for them, I'll say let them have my $20 bucks!

DKL - I'm glad someone else here found them useful. I have the Bentley for my E30 and E36, and was disappointed they didn't make one for the X5

I think the problem is that there are just way too many different options available on the newer BMWs that makes it difficult for Haynes or Bentley to publish just one manual trying to cover them all (various option ranges within the same model). I know Haynes usually buy a top of the line model, then strip it down and writes their manual. That's fine for a model that won't change much over the course of the 4 to 5-year model cycle. But BMW is changing or introducing new options almost twice a year (with mid-model upgrades, etc...) that makes it almost impossible for anyone to produce a service manual. If they do, it'll goes obsolete as soon as it's published. Thus, making it not worth the effort, IMHO. That's why we have not seen any service manuals from these companies on the newer BMWs.
