Question Are the 4.6/4.8 brakes the same as the E39 M5's?

I heard/read somewhere that the brakes on the 4.6 (and probably on the 4.8) were the same as on the E39 M5. I was looking on RealOEM and found that they both use a Jurid 187 pad on the fronts, but are listed as two separate part numbers for the two vehicles. This may be normal so as to differentiate between the two vehicles internally or whatever.

The front rotors did not appear to be the same, as the X5's seem to be thicker - which would make sense due to vehicle weight and thus heat dissipation etc. The X5's rotors look like they are MORE expensive (~$400 vs $362) than the M5's and are probably beefier as well.

The M5 appeared to have a slightly larger REAR rotor, but each vehicle had the same pads, a Textar T4001. And in THIS case, they each had the exact same part number, go figure!

Does anyone have any further info/scoop on the brakes? Just curious...

I will check my Brembo and EBC Catalog tomorrow when I get in to work and see if they use the same part numbers for the rotors. If they do, then they both use the same brakes.

no... the brake pads from the 3.0 and 4.4 are the same size as the e39m5.

4.6/4.8 are bigger
