Issues with Sirius Radio...

Here's a question for the seniors...

I've had my Sirius radio for years now and it has worked flawlessly without any problems whatsoever. That is, until I got into a minor front end collision! I had the front bumper replaced and the front end repainted. They did disconnect the battery before replacing one headlight, foglight etc. The rear of the vehicle was not even touched.

Now all of a sudden, I keep losing signal and the Sirius radio keeps saying 'Acquiring...' signal. Of course I have checked all connections. My antenna is behind the spoiler and has always worked fine. Any other ideas? Shouldn't be a coding issue...Anyone else experienced any similar problems?

Was the Sirius installed by BMW? If so - you should have a 2 year warranty on the parts/labor, make an appointment to have it inspected.

I installed it myself almost 2 years ago ...after being told by the dealer "This option is not available on the 02 models." Strange how it worked perfectly until the vehicle was in the body shop

Inspect the antenna to verify it was not dislodged during impact. If mounted on an angle - this will cause your signal loss.

I took off the spoiler today to inspect the antenna. There is no metal part to attach the magnetic bottom to; I simply placed it underneath the spoiler on the left side and reinstalled the spoiler. Looking at the marks under the spoiler, this is where I've always had it, placed sideways. Not sure what you mean by placed on an angle.

Meaning the antenna needs to be on a level surface. Might be time to have the X5 inspected by BMW.
