My 4.8 and BMW Australia (Update)

Hi All

Well, I took the bit between the teeth in an effort to resolve the difficulties with my car and spoke to the dealer.

I also spoke with BMW Australia, and proposed a deal where everyone could move forward.

I informed them that my car continued to detonate, the problems that they don't believe exist have been confirmed by a motoring engineer (he testifies as an expert witness for the manufacturuers and RAC around the country), Michelin had identified the tyre wear, and that I now had a witness to the mysterious case of the rear suspension dropsies.

The BMW Aust's customer service manager response was that he didn't care about my independent report, was happy with their legal position and politely told me (in not so many words) to suck eggs, then agreed that the proposal I was putting forward had merit and he would speak with the dealer about a solution. Rather than argue I moved forward.

I proposed buying two BMW's (a 540 Sports and an E70 4.8 X5) in return for trading in my lemon at minimal loss to me. The dealer, to their credit put up a super deal where we got halfway to the shortfall on the value of my E53 versus the payout, and I contributed a sum of $10k.

That left a sum for BMW Aust to either spend on solicitors or the car.

Well, they've apparently chosen to spend it on the legal eagles.

I am astounded that they passed up a chance for everyone to clear the decks and meet in the middle, where we all have a bit to pay out but hey, you built the bloody thing so at least do SOMETHING!!!!

I don't care what it costs now.... BMW is gonna hear from me AROUND THE WORLD...

Letters to every magazine in their biggest markets, no more Mr Nice guy letters to the board, media (television eg Today Tonight tabloid), legal, you name it.

I've spent a year and a half being patient and they just thumb their noses at you down here. You guys in the USA sure are lucky you have Lemon Laws....

END of Rant...

It sounds like you made a fair and honest effort to meet them halfway. Disappointing that things didn't work out. I wish you all the best in getting this resolved, but remember in the end it is just vehicle. As much as we are all very passionate about our X5's here, don't lose your health or wealth over it.

I don't get it. What happened to customer service? Sorry to hear they didn't step up to the plate. Good luck.

I think this reflects dearly into the dealerships. Maybe BMW should relook into the resellers in each country where they do not protect the interest of the brand name. Here in Singapore the dealership (sole agent) was not doing a good job some 10 - 15 years ago. But now, they are very full on with service and have improved tremendously over the last few years.
To be honest, I think the management of the dealership should believe in good service and building a long-term relationship than just a few bucks.
Sorry to hear about your situation as I think any BMW owner would be upset (possibly an understatement in your case).
my 2 cents worth..........

Goodluck mate stick it right to them, when you fork out over $A100K you expect to get something in return to justify the expenditure.

Maybe 5 X Korean buz boxes are a better option, unfortunately the BMW logo isnt all its cracked up to be. Did you catch the low profile BMW received in last Saturdays Sydney Morning Herald in the Drive section.

Makes me wonder where Im headed with two BMs (Bloody Monsters) in the garage.
