My X5 is feeling old

Hi !

Some background.
I've had my 2002 4.6is over a year now and it has less than 40k in ODO, it's running smoothly without problems.

But, 6 months ago I bought ML350 2006. Sure, it has soft suspension and not as much HP but it is a great family car, lots of space and comfortable suspension, the HiFi sound system is superior to X5s, navigation is easier to operate and the ML even consumes less gas than the X5. And, when you close the door you can hear it closing smoothly, opposite to X5's hard sound.

I use my X rather rarely, mostly when I go play icehockey and need the trunk space, as I have a third car, a convertible which is so much fun to drive on summer time.

Ok, now you started to hate me for making X look bad

Well here's the closure...

Even though the X feels old, the HiFi sound system is still decent, and well, at least it has a navigation system, but, the X handles well, it's so nimble and feels small compared to ML, and the rough suspension makes the X sit in corners so well, and the engine, sooo good, feel the power, feel the torque, it's screaming to push it
It's getting old but it's MY car

Upgrade the speakers and "old" will sound "new" - nav can also be re-newed - sounds like the MB is an "old" station wagon, to be driven sedately - you want to be a bus driver or a driving enthusiast? - the difference between piloting a fighter vs an airliner - where would you rather be?

DSP system will sound better with a sub, but I agree that Mercedes speakers > BMW speakers.

I agree with Mark... upgrade the electronics, and maybe add some AE's/clears to freshen the front end, and fall in love with it all over again. 40k is nothing on that car and the 2002 4.6 is a rare bird.

Heh, some missed the point
But yes, the ML is better family car, especially here in bad road Bay area, but the X is more fun.

At one point I was thinking of selling it, but I think I liked it too much to sell, and having so few miles in ODO it will run long time.
And yes, with quite small amount of investment the sound system is easy to get better, usually you get better speakers a lot cheaper after market than as factory option, the sub would be nice to add though.

I'm shipping my car to Finland as I'm moving there, leaving the sunny California, think about that any way, the X is still appx. 60k€ car over there, so selling it here for $35k doesn't make sense.

Here's some pics from other thread
