Thanks for the useful feedback!

I tried the 5, and I really dislike the interior. I've thought hard about a newer E53, but this one has been so unreliable - I'm not sure I want to expose myself to that again.

I want to stay within manufacturer warranty - I've actually got a really good one on my X5, better than the CPO cover, and most of the stuff is deemed "consumable" (CV boots as a recent example) or "uncovered" (bracket failure that took out a coolant sensor - bracket was on a TSB). I've been burned by that too many times now

A 2006 or 2005 E53 will be much more reliable than your 2002. Yours was made only a couple of years after it came out. By 05 and 06 they had a lot of issues ironed out. I love my 06. If you get an 05 you will have 2 years left on manufactuuers and another 2 on cpo. Whats better than that.

There's an '05 E53 X5 sittin at my dealer CPO lot. Sport pack and get this, a 6-speed manual! CPOs are pricey though, this one's $37.5k which is still kinda high IMO. Then again, I guess you pay for that extra warranty.....

I had the 4.8is and now I have a E90 335i. you wont regret it unless you have to have the suvish type vehicle. the 335 is great, I love it.
