Question Did the dealership break my window?

I took my '01 x5 in for a broken outside door handle. The dealership calls me back and says my window is broken on the same door (drivers door). When I told them I was not paying $400-$500 for a new window motor, they called back and said the window was ok and that parts fell into the cables from the door handle and it should be fine. The next day when my door handle was fixed they told me again the window was "not happy" and could break at any time.
Their timing was spot on...later that day I went to roll the window down and it will not only not roll up but the button is in the middle position...won't go down or up. It is down about 4 inches.
The GM called me back and said "no parts per say fell into the window cable but that the two cables got tangled up and they had nothing to do with breaking the window motor."
Has anyone seen the inside parts to say if this is true or not? It is a very difficult pill to swallow that is was "a coincindence" and that they are not responsible.
Any help is appreciated.

Hey EMP0878 same thing happened to mines but it was the passenger side. I took it to the dealer and they said the regulator was broken and needed to be replaced at somewhere near $300 plus. I let them roll the window up and decided to see a mechanic friend who took the door apart and showed me that the only thing that happened was a screw came loose in the regulator and wires and just needed to be re-tightened I suggest you take it to any regular mechanic who has knowledge of windows and mirrors and see what they can do for you. it's very very rare for a component like a window regulator to go bad unless your spending day and night bringing your windows up and down. good luck

You are obviously a new X5 owner. The regulators on these things brake all the time. search on here and you will find 234523453 posts on them.

As for the problem, they had to open the door panel to fix your handle. id blame them, and make them pay for it. if they still refuse Id put a call into BMW NA and get it taken care of. Espically if the window was working fine before they took it apart.

Its not a problem all bmw's have. Just X5's. I never had one go out on my 323i, 330ci, or 540i. I think the x5 ust uses different parts. If you look at the DIY on the link above, they have some pics of the clips that fail.

thanks for that I wish i would have known back then about this i would have never went to the stealer in the first place. let me ask you a question since you seem to know a lot, would a mass air flow sensor cause a misfire, I am getting several P0171 and P0174 codes reading miss fires and im being told that one of the reasons might be the MAS. would you know.? thanks.

Anytime,

what did the dealer say about it? Might try calling your SA and seeing what they say about it, as they encounter those codes more frequently.
